CLEVELAND, Ohio — Media mogul Ted Turner, in Cleveland Friday to accept the City Club’s Citadel of Free Speech Award, delighted an audience with a mix of blunt-edged observations of the world’s problems and more than a few crisp one-liners.
The outspoken founder of cable networks CNN and TNT assailed the partisan gridlock in national politics — “This makes me madder than hell,” he said — and he touched on topics from nuclear disarmament to environmental protection and equal rights for women.
Referring to nuclear weapons with potential to destroy the planet, the 73-year-old businessman and philanthropist joked, “This is really a nice world — even Cleveland.”
